Observation of a saucer near the ground by a pilot ( In December 9, 1979 )
This former lieutenant-colonel of the Air Force is, at the time of the facts, pilots from Mirage III within the 2-nd squadron of hunting of Dijon and lives in a village near Dijon. The house is situated at the end of a lot looking onto fields. In about 250 m is a bouquet of trees of an average height of 15 m.
On December 9, 1979 at about 9. 15 of the morning, he and his wife observe an unusual object in fields bordering their house; the weather report and the visibility are excellent. The object, the dimensions of which they estimate to 20 m of diameter on 7 m of thickness, is in still flight 3 m of height about in front of the bouquet of trees which it masks partially. In perfect concordance with his wife, the witness describes it as :
- Having the shape of two saucers stacked in the very net outlines, knocked down the one on the other one, not presenting either portholes, or lights,
- Being of colour metal grey on the top, and more bluish on the bottom, with a separation perfectly bounded between the top and the bottom of the machine. This difference of colour could not be due to a difference of lighting, considering the position of the sun,
- Full of life in a permanent way very light oscillations, the frequency of which was not very fast, as something looking for the balance,
- Making no rustles,
- Causing no turbulence on the ground either during the still flight, or at the time of the departure,
- Having left no draws on the ground. After a time of observation which he appreciates with difficulty, the witnesses see the object oscillating strongly and have the impression that it bows little forwards (as the fact a helicopter after the takeoff in the beginning of horizontal translation). Then it leaves in the horizontal; at very low height, noiselessly , without leaving of trail and disappears on the horizon with very strong speed in some seconds.
The witness, who testified in the police force of the Air of the air base of Dijon, believes to know that the other persons observed the phenomenon without daring to go to testify, notably his neighbours and their children. This observation, of a pilot professionally warned well of the aeronautical phenomena, has never received from explanation.
